Vacation Rental Description

Labarthe Cottage (Gite) is situated in a very quiet and secluded position on a south facing hill side, with beautiful views over the gently rolling hills of Aquitaine in South Western France. The solar heated swimming pool is one of the largest private pools in the area (13.5m x 7 m max), and is set in a large garden. Although very secluded, Labarthe Cottage is only 1 mile from the small town of Duras with its' imposing Chateau, which has a full range of shops,  a Chemist, Doctors, Dentists, Bars and Restaurants. Although this area is close to the popular Dordogne area, it is generally quieter and restaurant prices a little lower. The Cottage sleeps six in comfort, with one double and two twin bedrooms and two shower rooms. The kitchen area is very well equipped, and the living room has (UK) Satellite TV, Video and CD player. Free WiFi is provided, and if you cannot bring your own computer you can have limited use of ours..

Area Description

Eating Out:

The area abounds with good country restaurants, it is possible to get a good four course meal including wine for as little as 11.50 euros at midday. Wine is usually extra in the evenings. In our local bars, coffee and wine are 2.20 euros. A 1/2 ltr. carafe of wine is approximately 4 euros.

  Golf:

The very fine Chateau des Vigiers offers an excellent 27 holes, and there are a number of other 9 hole courses within easy driving distance. Charges are very reasonable. Clubs can be hired.

 Wine

What else! Labarthe is an ideal centre for visiting the Bordeaux, St. Emilion, Bergerac, Buze and of course Duras wine producing areas.

 Dordogne Valley:

The Dordogne River Valley, villages and towns are within easy reach if you feel the inclination to visit the area, but are far enough away to avoid their holiday traffic packed roads.

 Bastide Villages:

There are many beautiful old "bastide" towns and villages, chateaux, and very old churches and other places to visit

. Riding:

There are a number of riding establishments in the area, with a particularily good one for children.

 Water Sports:

Canoes can be hired on the rivers Dordogne, Garonne and Dropt.

During the "winter" the first week is charged at £50 more than subsequent weeks, and special long let rates (over 4 weeks) are available.
