Kiahuna Plantation: Is the only beach front resort in Poipu. The white sand beach, backed by green lawns, palm trees and tropical gardens is perfect to relax or enjoy swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding or surfing. Towels and lounging chairs are freely provided to guests at the beach-side activity hut. You will experience why Poipu beach has been rated one of the best beach in the world by USA Today. From our condo unit 303, located on the first floor of Building 38, you look out over the heart of the Moir Cactus Garden located on the grounds of Kiahuna Plantation among the beach bungalows. The garden was created by Alexandra Moir during the time her husband was the plantation manager. Originally developed in the 1930's, the Moir Garden was opened to the public in the mid-1950's. The garden is home to many rare plants; including succulents and cactus, bromeliads, orchids, century trees, and beautiful water lily ponds with koi fish. There is no admittance fee to enter and enjoy the Moir Garden. You will feel comfortable and right at home in our recently remodeled and nicely furnished vacation home. The tropical paradise below can be enjoyed from the lanai (balcony) as well as watching the sunset in the evening.
Area DescriptionKauai is a Hawaiian island of seven micro climates ranging from dry desert to tropical rain forest. Poipu Beach has a semi-arid tropical climate. The near-by Haupu Mountain range blocks most prevailing showers. The average annual rainfall in Poipu is 34 inches. By comparison, Miami receives 55 inches. In the winter, daytime temperatures in Poipu range from the mid 70's to the lower 80's. Nighttime temperatures are in the low to mid 60's. In the summer, daytime temperatures go as high as the upper 80's, and during the night, down into the low 70's. When showers make it into the Poipu area, they are usually brief. We always recommend wearing natural fiber clothing such as cotton which is most comfortable in the tropics. We also recommend packing a sweater or jacket and long pants to take on trips up into the mountains, where the air, at 4,000 feet, is cooler. Most of the Poipu area hotels do have air conditioning. Many other types of accommodations do not, but are equipped with ceiling fans and louvered windows. Our prevailing trade winds provide a natural cooling effect most of the time. Island Activities: The white sand beach at the plantation is a great location for swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding or surfing. Nearby is Poipu State Park, considered one of the safest spots for snorkeling or for children to play. Spouting Horn is a short drive away, as is the small town of Koloa with grocery store, shops and restaurants that have the feel of rural Hawaii. Enjoy a drive up Waimea Canyon the colorful "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" or drive up to the end of the road and be amazed at the beauty of the Na Pali coast from above. Other options include exploring the Na Pali coast by tour boat or enjoying a bird's eye view of the "Garden Island" by helicopter. That is an experience you won't soon forget!
