Val d'Isere Tignes charming ski Chalet
Vacation Rental Description
The Chalet du Saut is a 17th century Savoyard farmhouse, recently converted to a ski chalet. It offers 200m² of accommodation, & comfortably sleeps 12/14 in 6 bedrooms & mezzanine, with 4 bathrooms, a large living area around the open fireplace, and a kitchen and dining area designed to cater for large dinner parties. It is in the traditional alpine hamlet of the Villaret du Nial, a privileged discreet location, in the heart of the Espace Killy ski area. The hamlet is nestled on the south facing slopes above the road to Valdisere and overlooking the Tignes dam. You are 4kms (5 mins) from the funicular and ski pistes in Val d'Isere and 3kms from the lifts & pistes at Tignes les Boisses, the chalet offers the best of both worlds, the convenience of a major ski area, without the hustle and bustle of a holiday resort.. There is private car parking at the chalet. The surroundings are well suited to children, no traffic, lots of sun, a garden to play in, etc..... In the summer, close to the Grand Sassiere nature reserve, it is ideally situated for mountain walking, other summer activities include Golf (9&18 holes in Tignes), Summer Skiing, Kayaking and Rafting.
Area DescriptionThe Espace Killy ski area, consisting of the linked high altitude resorts of Tignes & Val d'Isere, is Europe's most "snow sure" ski area.
Tignes and neighbouring ski resort Val D'Isere make up the Espace Killy ski area. Made up of 300kms of piste with 137 different runs to choose from, 9 slalom stadiums, 2 mogul fields, 2 halfpipes, 2 snowparks and 97 mostly high speed lifts to get you round the mountains.

There are bigger ski playgrounds in Europe, but not with terrain as well linked, groomed or various as that of Espace Killy in France. Taking in the resorts of Val d'Isère and Tignes, you'll clock up more skiing time here in a week than anywhere else on the continent, whether you're a beginner or an expert.

For some, nothing beats the prospect of mile after mile of
perfectly tended piste and in Europe you are spoilt for choice.

Consider that Whistler, North America's biggest ski area, has just 37 lifts. The Trois Vallées area in France had 200 at the last count, and more than 370 miles of piste.
Espace Killy, with 97 lifts and 186 miles of piste, is not quite so big, but it more than makes up for it through the integration of its lift system. For beginners and intermediates there are huge open bowls, gently winding trails and high altitude "motorways" to cruise. For experts there are vast off-piste playgrounds, littered with steeps, shoots, gullies, cliffs and trees. With glacier skiing at up to 3,455m and integrated snow making, covering the whole area, snow is also guaranteed - even in August.

“Top Snow”
|
|
"Val gets top marks for snow, off-piste, shopping and bars", say Pat Sharples and Vanessa Webb in their excellent book, "50 top Ski and Snowboard Resorts in Europe". Tignes, they add, offers the "best skiing and boarding in Europe".
Unlike some super-resorts, the two resorts of Espace Killy are seamlessly joined, so you can cruise from one to the other without fear of getting caught in rush-hour queues. The round journey from Tignes Le Brévières, which sits 800m below the main resort of Tignes, to Le Fornet, an off-piste mecca at the furthest edge of Val d'Isère, would take a day or more in other resorts. Here it can be done in an afternoon, so efficient is the lift system
|
The area, named after Jean-Claude Killy, the champion skier who swept the board in the 1968 winter Olympics, is a masterpiece of function over form and is all about skiing. And in that it shines brighter than any other super-resort in Europe and perhaps the world.
After hosting the 1992 Olympic downhill skiing events, Val d’Isere will be the setting for the 2009 Alpine Ski World Championships.
